Survivor of Acid Attack Claims Aggressor is Free

María Elena Ríos, a survivor of an attempted femicide by acid attack, has reported that her aggressor, former PRI deputy Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal, is free. The aggressor left Santa Anita Hospital without María Elena being notified, who arrived at the medical center to find him absent.

Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal was released on December 2 by a federal order from the Tanivet prison and transferred to Reforma Hospital due to alleged severity. A week later, he was admitted to the medical unit in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, near the capital of Oaxaca. However, when María Elena arrived, the aggressor was no longer there.

In a video shared on social media, María Elena expressed her dismay at discovering Vera Carrizal's absence. She accused the authorities of revictimizing her, stating that "political agreements mattered more than justice." Desperate, she asked for help from President Claudia Sheinbaum and denounced Oaxaca as a "nest of corruption."

According to an official document from Santa Anita Hospital, signed by treating physician Ulises Pérez Carrera, Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal has multiple medical diagnoses, such as post-operative hemorrhoidectomy, cervical canal syndrome, cognitive disorder under study, among others, without any attachments supporting this report.
